Behind The Scenes: TACB Drag & Divas - Bigger and Better!
What do you get when you combine a group of talented hair and makeup students, with a fabulous drag queen and an umbrella full of glitter? One hell of a runway show!
On Wednesday 24th February 2016, The Australasian College hosted their annual Drag and Divas workshops to showcase the students talents and to celebrate Mardi Gras.
I was lucky enough to take part in the Divas workshop where we recreated memorable looks of past and present females icons. From 'California Gurls' Katy Perry to 'If I Could Turn Back Time' Cher it was all there!
The energy in the studio was buzzing and it was great to see everyone working together. Some students had only been doing makeup for a few weeks and the work they created was fantastic!
Once the hair and makeup was done it was time to get the models into wardrobe where they were styled in costumes from Costume Box. That really brought our Divas to life and you could see them quickly getting into character at the backstage photo shoot!
She kicked off the show with her sassy rendition of 'Beauty School Drop Out' which was amazing! The audience was hooked as she strutted the runway in her school girl outfit!
Then our blue haired babe, complete with rainbow lollipop in hand, Katy Perry (modelled by Annika who I had the pleasure of making up) walked and danced the runway, leading a line up of fabulous drag queens and divas.
Coco Jumbo then took to the stage for her half time performance of Beyoncé's 'Sweet Dreams' and 'Single Ladies'. She looked fierce in a bright purple bodysuit and rocked the runway as the crowd danced and clapped along!
The final part of the show included more drag queens and divas such as Judy Garland from Wizard of Oz, Rihanna complete with an 'Umbrella' full of glitter, Christina Aguilera 'Moulin Rouge' style and Queen Bey from 'Single Ladies'
Seeing the models do their final walk was such an incredible feeling! The whole show came together perfectly and it was such a fun day working with a great team or artists who I know have very bright careers ahead of them!
