Your Guide To Strobing
Kimmy K put contouring on the map but it's time to put down those contour kits ladies because now is your time to shine!
It's all about Strobing!
Now what is strobing I hear you say? It's simply highlighting with an illuminator to the areas of the face where natural light would hit. I'm talking tops of the cheekbones, brow bone, above the cupid's bow, bridge of your nose, center of the forehead and chin.
In the picture below I have applied a cream highlighter to these key areas.
Where contouring is about adding shadow to sculpt and define your features strobing is all about letting your inner glow shine through!

HOW TO STROBE!
Start by prepping the skin with a moisture rich primer or iridescent cream (such as MAC Strobe Cream) to create a fresh, dewy complexion. Then lightly apply foundation and conceal any problem areas.
Now it's time to strobe!
If you are using a cream based highlight I like to pat this onto the highlight areas of my face with my finger. It helps to blend and fuse the product in with my foundation. Ditch the finishing powder because it's all about that dewy, glowing look. I like to lock everything in using a setting spray (such as the Urban Decay Cooling and Hydrating Setting Spray).
But if you have oily skin and you don't want to shine like a disco ball, set your foundation/concealer with a translucent setting powder and then get a shadow highlight (such as the center shade in the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette 'Incandescent') and with a small fluffy makeup brush and a light hand, tap it over the highlight areas. That way your makeup is locked in and a nice highlight has been added to complement your makeup look.
Some of my favourite illumintors and highlighters are...
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
I could not live without this palette! The amazing center shade 'Incandescent Light' is exclusive to this palette and adds the perfect highlight.
Benefit High Beam Face Highlighter
The small brush applicator makes it easy to swipe over those key highlight areas!
MAC Strobe Cream
I love mixing this with my moisture rich primer/moisturiser to create the perfect dewy base.
For days when I want a minimal makeup look I mix my illumintor into my foundation to create a dewy, all over glow.
