Marisa Robinson Makeup Artist Makeup Artist Spotlight Paul Bedggood

This month my makeup artist spotlight is shining brightly on hair and makeup artist, Paul Bedggood. I have been lucky enough to work with Paul and not only is he an incredible artist but he brings an energy and spirit to set like no other!

Learn more about Paul and his amazing career in my exclusive Q&A below!

When did you first realise you wanted to be a makeup artist?
I first realised I wanted to become a makeup artist when I moved to Sydney 20 years ago as a hair stylist and started shooting for fashion magazines. I found it a natural progression and loved both sides and wanted to become the full package. I have loved it ever since and am still doing fashion shoots 20 years later.

How long have you been working in the industry?
I have been working in the industry for 20 years.

Which makeup style is your forte?
My makeup forte is bringing the beauty out in a person no matter who it is. I love creating a glam smokey socket while still keeping the natural beauty and highlights in a person.

What's the most valuable lesson you've learnt on the job?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt on the job is to collaborate as a team to create the magic and always see the beauty in a person.

Most memorable / favourite makeup job you've worked on?
There has been a lot of memorable jobs in my 20 year career. I have done editorials for Vogue, Harpers, Oyster and Australian Style mags to name a few. I did a recent shoot for Plus Model Mag with my gorgeous friend Tia Provost/model and photography superstar Fabrizio Lipari, we shot this on location at Mollymook Miss Tia’s home turf. Why this stands out is I love when you have an awesome team and you create something beautiful and magic. This is refreshing when you bounce off each other and walk away remembering why you love what you do. Goooo Team!

Top 5 products in your kit you'd be lost without?
 1. Chanel Vitalumiere Fluide Makeup
2. Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre, Translucent Powder
3. Nars Blush, Deep Throat
4. The Balm Cosmetics, Mary-Lou Manizer
5. Young Blood, Brow Artiste Kit
6. Bobby Brown, Concealer Duo, Creamy Concealer and Sheer Finish Pressed Powder

MUA you admire
A few makeup artists i admire are Pat McGrath, Hung Vanngo and Rae Morris.

If you weren't doing makeup you'd be...
If I wasn’t doing makeup I would be retired!!

What advice would you give to someone looking to become a MUA?
Always keep your passion alive and be driven. Always have fun and enjoy what you do and always bring good energy to set - this is just as important as your craft. These things have kept me going strong for 20 years. Also get out and assist as many makeup artist as you can, never stop learning new tricks and keep evolving!
